FIRST EDITIONS. Large 8vo. hardbacks in original maroon buckram with gilt titles to spines and gilt crests to upper boards. t.e.g. Lacking dust jackets. All volumes illustrated with b/w plates (plus 3 colour plates to Vol. III), line drawings and maps, many folding. A clean set with no previous owners' markings or inscriptions. Occasional light foxing, heavy to prelims and foredges. Front inner hinge to Volume I stretched. Spines to Volumes I, II and III very faded and those of I, III and IV soiled (please see photos). Some areas of fading and soiling to boards and corners to upper board of Volume III worn and fraying. Overall a Good Reading Set.
