Large 8vo., Royal blue clothbound hardback, with gilt lettering and colour plate laid on to upper cover; [xiv] + 392pp, indexed, with b/w illustrations (some foldout) plus map endpapers. 'AUTHOR'S COPY' in ink to half-title page, with additional plates and newspaper cuttings tipped-in, plus neat ink notes to foot of pp349. One previous owner's armorial bookplate to reverse of frontis plate, and another's small neat nameplate to reverse of ffep. Light foxing to edges and to first and last few pages, boards a little worn at outer corners and spine ends. Good copy overall.
