FIRST EDITION, Bradlow's Variant I (with two tinted lithographic illustrations and one black and white, and no extra leaf after p.8) 8vo. full tan calf hardback with raised bands, black title label, decorative gilt to spine and gilt school crest to upper board. All edges and endpapers marbled. x, 687pp., with tinted folding lithograph as frontispiece and two other lithograph plates, one tinted, one b/w. One large and one small folding maps at end plus large foldout Section illustration within text. A further 42 b/w illustrations (as called for) including a portrait of Livingstone. Neat ink signature to verso of ffep. No other markings or inscriptions. Vertical crease to early blank. Slight creasing to larger folding map. Very slight foxing to prelims. FRONT HINGE A LITTLE WEAK. Some light rubbing, scuffing, and slight loss of top surface of calf to spine and boards. Overall a GOOD+ COPY.
