8vo. hardback in contemporary red calf with highly decorative gilt to spine and boards. Appears to have been rebacked a long time ago and free endpapers replaced. All edges gilt with blind-stamped decoration. Front and rear pastedowns with contemporary hand-stamped patterned paper. [24], 519pp., [1]. TEXT IN LATIN. All text pages printed in black and red. Engraved vignette to title page, engraved frontispiece and 4 further full page engravings plus occasional decorated initial caps and tailpieces. Small modern bookplate to front pastedown. Old repair to gutter between frontispiece and title page with corresponding staining to next few pages. Lower edge of frontispiece has also been reinforced (please see photos). Occasional light foxing and slight tanning to a few leaves but overall remarkably crisp and fresh internally. Spine and boards rather rubbed, soiled and worn, with slight damage to gilt decorative border of lower board, possibly when being rebacked. Internally a VERY GOOD COPY, externally a Good Sound Copy.
