First Thus. 2 Volumes. 4to. hardbacks half bound in brown calf with raised bands and title labels, gilt to spines and clothbound boards. All edges marbled. Illustration Contents pages call for 125 full page plates over the two volumes, including a frontispiece to each volume. This set is lacking 5 of the plates (including the frontispiece to Vol. II) and has 7 plates misbound (including the frontispiece to Vol. I which appears in the Appendix at the end). Both volumes also have an engraved vignette to the title page and Vol. I has an engraving of a very young Queen Victoria as frontispiece. A clean set with no previous owners' markings or inscriptions although there is a small ink spot to recto of rfep in Vol. I. Occasional light foxing with most engravings clean on the image side. Top edges of both volumes a little dusty. Vol. I inner hinge a little stretched between frontispiece and title page and marbled endpaper beginning to split at top of inner hinge. Otherwise nice firm bindings. Spines, corners and spine labels somewhat rubbed and scuffed. Clothbound boards also rather rubbed with light edgewear. Overall a Good+ Set.
