FIRST EDITION Small 4to. hardback, halfbound in red morocco with raised bands, gilt to spine, and marbled boards. All edges marbled. 208pp., illustrated with b/w engravings (some tipped-in) and hand-coloured decorative initial caps. Title page (intended for original intended publication date of 1845) also hand-coloured. Previous owner has pasted various pieces of associated ephemera to ffep and early blank, plus a modern armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Loose pamphlet about Fifteenth-Century Wood-Carvings in St. Mary's Church also enclosed. Heavy foxing to prelims. Raised bands, spine edges and corners a little rubbed, otherwise a VERY GOOD COPY.
