Set in the last year of the Great War, 1918, it tells the story of Captain Hubert Hastings, who, invalided out of the army, came to live and farm in the Stour valley in East Kent. Here he fell in love with Dorothy Pattenden, daughter of the owner of Godstone Hall. A thinly disquised pseudonym for Godmersham Park. The many local scenes described include: Eastwell Park, Soakham Downs, Wye and Ashford. 8vo., bound in red cloth, 273pp. Ink name and heavy pencil name and number to ffep.
